3 Things That Will Help Change Your Relationship With Alcohol

In June 2020, the American Cancer Society came out with new alcohol consumption guidelines that say it is best not to drink alcohol. For many adults, especially stressed out working moms, this seems unrealistic. Many of us have gotten into the habit of drinking on a regular basis and don't know how to change.  Here are three things that worked well for me:

  1. Stop trying to change and just immerse yourself in the facts – there is so much new research about the effects of alcohol - how it does not really lower stress but increases cortisol and anxiety, how it affects our sleep, how it reduces brain function, etc.

  2. Try an experiment to eliminate it for 30 days - just 30 days to rest your body and see how you feel. Get curious and examine whether or not alcohol really helps you unwind, go to sleep, have fun with friends, etc. See if you feel better.

  3. Make it fun - do the experiment with friends, join an online 30-day experiment group for support, find fun substitutes such as Curious Elixirs or Seedlip Spirits.
